I was a bit hamstrung by the fact I’m still living a bit in chaos…. my sewing machine and all my fabric is at my mum’s, and her house is the only place I can sand and paint these days. All my tools are there – even all my wrapping paper. You get the idea!
So I did a little papercraft … just because. And I made a free printable on the off chance you’d like a teeny little house in your house. For best results print on vellum, but normal (thinnish) paper with cut outs for the windows would be cute too.
Mine’s a bit small because the only vellum I had was 7×9… but you can make it as big as you like. I used a small torch to light it up but it would work best a little bit bigger and popped over the top of an LED tealight. Ignore all the little gaps in mine – I was a bit slapdash with the sellotape.
I was inspired by this pin from fellowfellow.com
I much prefer her version! I’m on the look out for some nice pictures that will work to make cute votives like this. I think they’d be lovely somewhere in our new flat. But first, I need to track down some LED tea lights (quite hard to come by in the UK I’ve found).
I took the house front from this picture of our holiday in Holland:
You could use this method to make a souvenir of a favourite building from your travels, or your home or a special home from your past, or you can use the free printable and create this little Dutch house.
What will I do with my little house? Well. I think for now it will go on a little knick knack shelf, but at Chrismas I might punch a hole in the top so it can hang on our tree.
I think I’ll be finishing up my filing cabinet paint project at my mum’s house tonight so look back later this week for that!
