Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes on instagram yesterday! I realised after I posted that it was a shameless plug for attention, but I promise my intention was only to show you the lovely cakes and mug that Mr V gave me!

I had a really lovely day off for my birthday – in the morning I went to the florist with my mum, armed with Jess’s mom’s tips! The florist was amazing and I’m so excited about our flowers now. All the details are falling into place!

I had lunch and a glass of prosecco with Mr V in the sun (a rare sighting, especially for my birthday!) and we went to Ikea in the afternoon, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

And then in the evening my Mr V, my mum, friends and I went out for a meal at an amazing restaurant three doors down from my house. It was the first time we’d been so we were thrilled to discover that not only was it yummy, but they also do takeaway! After dinner, everyone popped back to our flat for a slice of gorgeous cake and a round of Happy Birthday.

A very Happy Birthday, indeed!

Anyway, the real point of this post was to ‘claim’ my blog on Bloglovin’ (with the link at the top of this post). I am bereft at the loss of Google Reader, but we will blog on!

Vintage button giveaway!

vintage glass buttons 2

As I mentioned earlier this week, I’ve been spoilt rotten lately, so I thought it was time to give a little something back with my very first giveaway. (This is 100 per cent funded by me, in case that wasn’t obvious.)

vintage glass buttons 1

Up for grabs is a lovely card of buttons, plus whatever surprises I can rustle up before I put it in the post.

These buttons are vintage 1940s Czech glass. They’re lovely and solid, yet also glassy. I think they’d look perfect on a chambray dress, like this:

But! If you’re not into making clothes, you could also whip up two button up pillows using this tutorial, or change the buttons on a ready-to-wear cardigan like this. Or just hoard them with your other crafting supplies!

There’s 3/4 inches across and have shanks.

And they could be all yours! All you have to do is leave a comment on this post before midnight (GMT) next Wednesday and I’ll select a winner at random. I’m happy to post internationally and I always make my parcels pretty.

Welcome to my new home!

Weeds or wildflowers? The garden of a house I saw last spring.

Hooray!

Through trial and error and a lot of fiddling with settings I did not understand, I have made it to wordpress.org. Thanks for all your kind words on Friday.

I think most of you should be getting this in your feed reader if you’re a subscriber? If you’re not, please re-subscribe to the new feed! (Link in the right hand side bar.)

The design isn’t final, but it’s good enough for now. Let me know if anything doesn’t work the way it should. The bunting in the side bar is from irocksowhat (but I’m not sure about it – too twee?), I made my header using picmonkey.

Does anyone have any plug-ins they’d recommend?

“How do you find the time?”

Question:

(Click on picture to go to the real tweets)

Answer: I just give up on even basic house-keeping and live like this:

Ha!

Longer version of answer, in case you too were wondering how I’ve been finding the time to sew since I caught the bug: I have a five minute commute to work, so my evening starts at 5:35, plus I go home for lunch so I make 50-minute dents in sewing projects during the middle of the day.

Also, when I’m on a sewing kick I neglect my blog (see lack of posts lately and fact I still haven’t blogged about that skirt…) as well as other things like cooking (thank goodness for Mr V).

On the plus side, that particularly chaotic scene was the result of finishing up a birthday present for a friend in 90 minutes rather than the allotted evening when our plans suddenly changed, so I now have a skirt and an apron to show you when I get some good pictures. Hooray!

What does your house look like mid-project?

PS. Can you spot my massive Rolf Harris drawing in the corner? He drew it for me when I was about seven.

A note from the management

Hello darlings,

I’m making some changes behind the scenes to my blog this weekend so things might look a little odd around here over the weekend (and links to old posts might not work). I’m working on it!

But what are you doing reading this anyway? Go enjoy your Easter weekend!
